Before I start my letter I want to tell you about Jody. We have never met, she is a friend of my friend Talia; she lives many thousands of miles away, yet feels everything I feel. Jody writes to check if we are OK and Jody wants
to know about the flowers on my veranda and the beauty of Jerusalem. She lights up my life and I want you all to know about her.

28th April, 2002
The town of Hebron was the first Capital of the Jewish people. King Davidbegan in Hebron before he moved his people to " Royal David's City"
Jerusalem.

Few Jews live in Hebron today, those who do are in a fortress-like situation because their lives are under constant threat by their neighbours.

Today Hebron is claimed as a Moslem city; Jews are not welcome.

The "yishuv" or small town of Adora is close to Hebron. The residents of Adora are ordinary folk, families. The newsspeak of today calls them "settlers".

Yesterday at about nine o clock in the morning, two Palestinian "freedom fighters" dressed up in Israeli uniforms, flak jackets and all, and walked into little Danielle Shefi's bedroom and shot the five year old at point blank range.
They also shot her little brothers, Elad (4) and Uriel (2) before these heroes of
the Islamic Revolution went to the parents room and shot them. Danielle died; Ari Becker, who ran to the family's aid, was killed too, as were Katya Greenberg and Ya'acov Katz. The two other Shefi children and their mother Shiri were
wounded. Today Shiri was released from hospital so that she could stand by her husband as they buried their baby.

An attack on one of Tel Avivs skyscrapers was prevented today when the plans and the car-bomb were discovered and disarmed at source, in Kalkilya. The army also found other bomb factories and suicide/homicide belts ready to
blow Israeli lives apart

AID WORKERS OF THE AMERICAN HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH HAVE ENTERED JENIN, WITH THE FULL CO-OPERATION OF THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT AND STATED CLEARLY AND LOUDLY THAT THERE WAS NO MASSACRE IN JENIN. iS
THE UNITED STATES BODY NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE UN?

We went to see Kinneret yesterday. When her mother, Yaffa, suggested that I go into her room, I admit trepidation. As I walked down the corridor I saw Moshe, Kinneret's father, massaging her foot gently, lovingly. Kinneret's bed is huge and very high. The lovingly caressed foot is the only part of her not swathed in hospital green, except her face.

Still expressionless her beauty is beginning to show through the terrible scarring. Her tired eyes cannot close properly because of the tension of the skin from the burn damage. Moshe stopped his task as he saw me enter the room.

Immediately Kinneret's eyes flew open as she strained to see who was there. She cannot smile yet, but she will. Moshe and Yaffa are with their daughter 24 hours a day, together with Kinneret's sisters. They cannot work -- their only
occupation is Kinneret's future. They barely sleep, fraught with concern.

Yet, these wonderful people greet all their concerned visitors with a kiss and a smile
and quesstions after the family. Please keep up your prayers, for Kinneret Chaya bat Yaffa, and for Yaffa and Moshe, wonderful parents.

I would hate you to think we do nothing but listen to the news and visit victims. We visit friends and they visit us. We go to great restaurants and less great movies. We hear opera and go to the theatre. We are still atonished by the antiquities, artifacts and art work of the museum and of course shopping will
always lift the spirit!!!

We will come out of all this with our heads held high. We know that we have done nothing worse than defend ourselves from the rapacious need to
overthrow democracy and the Judeo-Christian society. Terje Larssen can shout as much as he wishes, we know he takes bribes. The United States
Human Rights Watch is unbiased and does not have to kow-tow to the many Arab States on the security council. This honourable US organisation is good enough for me, and should be for the members of the world community.

Prime Minister Sharon is weighing favourably the possiblity of a British/American commission coming here to oversee. Sounds good to me too!

Have a good week, take care and don't forget to smell the spring flowers and feel the warmth of the sun.

Love
Sheila
