Regarding 'Israel's Crimes Against Cultural Heritage'

The destruction of the Buddhas in Afghanistan by the Taliban has drawn condemnation by most of the world. Yet destruction of equal magnitude is being carried out today by Islamic authorities on Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount, without protest by any nation or organization, including Israel.
The government of Ariel Sharon, like previous governments, seems to be ignoring happenings on the Temple Mount. Public Security Minister Uzi Landau, who controls the police who have jurisdiction there, continues to insist that the Muslims are NO LONGER destroying Jewish artifacts in order to build additional Muslim structures on the Mount. But according to the Committee Against the Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount (which, led by Hebrew University archaeologist Eilat Mazav, is the most vocal of the opponents of the Muslim Waqf, the trust that operates Muslim holdings ), a 12-foot-long stone cutter of the type used in quarries has been taken up to the Temple Mount (where at present no non-Muslim is permitted to go) and is being used to destroy ancient architectural remains. Cut in slices, the ancient stones are suitable for use in new Muslim buildings.
In spite of constant denials by the government of continued Muslim operations, the verification of which is denied to outside sources, the evidence continues to grow not only of continued Muslim destruction, but of efforts to turn the entire Temple Mount into a series of mosques, thus permanently denying any Jewish access.
If the Jewish past of the Temple Mount is to be preserved, it is imperative to stop the Muslim destruction. If the Jews relinquish their claim to the Temple Mount, what claim do they have to any part of Eretz Yisroel? I implore everyone to urge the Israeli government to stop the Muslim desecration of Judaism's holiest site.
